  • Getting to Old Trafford

    Getting Here

    There are lots of ways to get to Old Trafford and we have some useful information and advice before your journey begins.

    Driving

    Roads around Old Trafford and the surrounding areas – including the local motorway network – are extremely busy on match days.

    Please plan your route to the stadium in advance and allow more time than usual for your journey.

    CAR PARKING

    To book official car parking, visit manutd.com/tickets.

    RESIDENT PARKING

    A strictly-enforced resident parking scheme is in place on the streets around Old Trafford, which is made clear through on-street signage. Please do not park in these areas, as you will be fined and your vehicle could be clamped or removed. Please respect the needs of local residents. 

    MATCHDAY ROAD CLOSURES

    Several roads are closed on match days so pedestrians can travel to Old Trafford safely.

    Metrolink Park and Ride

    You can avoid the busy match-day traffic by leaving your car at a Park and Ride site, before completing the remainder of your journey on Metrolink.

    With plenty of sites across the network, it’s easy to park up and hop on the tram for a hassle-free journey to the ground.

    Sale Water Park, Ladywell, East Didsbury, Ashton Moss and Ashton West all have hundreds of free Park and Ride spaces, and provide frequent direct trams to either Old Trafford, Trafford Bar or Exchange Quay on match days.

    Bus

    Frequent bus services run to Old Trafford from Manchester city centre and further afield.

    The 53, 79, 250, 255, 256, 263 and x50 services all stop close to the stadium and take between 20 and 30 minutes from Manchester city centre.

    Journeys could take longer than advertised on match days due to the volume of traffic, so please allow additional time for your journey.

    Tram

    A fast and frequent Metrolink tram service runs to several stops that are within short walking distance of the stadium.

    The closest stop is ‘Old Trafford’. From here, a simple, five-minute walk will take you to the ground. Trams depart from Manchester city centre every six minutes, and the journey takes approximately 15 minutes. You can find the ‘Old Trafford’ stop on the Bury-Altrincham line.

    The Trafford Bar, Exchange Quay, Salford Quays and MediaCityUK Metrolink stops are all 15-20 minutes’ walk from the stadium.

    Metrolink operates a zonal fare ticket system, and all the stops close to Old Trafford are located in zone 2. For journeys from the city centre to the stadium, you will require a zone 1+2 ticket.

    For the 2019/20 season, Metrolink passengers will bene?t from a new and easy-to-use contactless payment system – enabling them to touch in at the start of a journey and out at the end using a contactless bank card or another contactless-enabled payment device, such as a phone or watch.

    Tickets must be purchased before travel, with ticket machines located on every platform at all Metrolink stops.

    Train

    Manchester is well served by rail, with services running into the stations at Manchester Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria. Fans can easily connect to onward trams from Victoria and Piccadilly.

    Be sure to plan ahead and check train times on the National Rail website before you travel.

    Please note that trains do not run to the Manchester United FC Halt station. The nearest rail station is Trafford Park, which is approximately a 25-minute walk from the ground.

    Walking

    Old Trafford is 2.5 miles from the city centre and should take around 45-60 minutes to walk to.

    TfGM’s map indicates the fastest route to the stadium.

    Cycling

    If you are travelling to Old Trafford by bicycle, there are free cycle racks located at the following car parks:
    - N2 (Sir Alex Ferguson Stand)
    - E2 (East Stand)
    - W2 (West Stand) Please note, you will need to use your own secure bike lock

    Bicycles must not be secured in any other areas across the stadium site at any time. Bicycles secured outside of authorised cycle racks will be promptly removed, which may result in damage for which the club will not be held liable.
